You listed your conditions. You used the calculator. You were expecting 90%…
and you got 70%.
The VA’s rating math isn’t broken — it’s just not normal math.
Let’s break it down without the headache.
⚖️ The VA’s “Whole Person” Math
Every new rating is applied to what’s left of your “whole” health:
- Start at 100%
- First rating is subtracted
- Second rating is applied to the remaining %
- Repeat for each condition
- Final number is rounded to nearest 10
🧠 Example:
50% (PTSD)
30% (Back)
10% (Tinnitus)
→ Might result in 72% → Rounds to 70%
Even with multiple conditions, the VA rating rarely adds up like you expect.
🧭 Clinical Documentation and Evidence
If you believe your current rating does not accurately reflect your symptoms, focus on clinical documentation to support your health records:
- Requesting medical evaluations for secondary conditions related to your service-connected health.
- Ensuring that symptoms, diagnoses, and functional limitations are clearly documented by a medical professional.
- Obtaining an independent medical evaluation and Nexus Letter based on clinical judgment.
We provide medical evaluations and nexus letters based solely on clinical judgment and the documentation of medical symptoms. Our services are strictly medical-only; we do not provide claim preparation, filing, or strategy assistance. All fees are for professional medical services only and are not contingent on claim outcomes, backpay, or success, in full compliance with SB 694.
📍 Use the calculator — but don’t stop there
